Groton is a small school settled in the hills north of Boston, Massachusetts Groton School is an Episcopal school that seeks to build a tight knit community with integrity and chivalry. Groton offers an unparalleled sense of community for its 380 students. Each student is entrusted with more responsibility as the years go by. The school offers education and board to students from 8th to 12th grade. As seniors, students have the chance to be prefects for the younger students. Each day starts at chapel and each day ends with a handshake. In all 17 dormitories, everyone gets a handshake at the end of the night. As students progress from year to year, the living situation for students begins to look more and more like college. Each dorm has faculty and senior mentors who plan fun dorm activities and provide motivation. Service and engagement is also a massive part of going to Groton, encouraging their students to lead outside of the classroom and even off of Groton’s campus. Through campus traditions, such as the nightly handshake, students and faculty build close relationships throughout the years, providing students with support to ensure their success.
In the lower grades, Groton challenges students to think outside of the box. Their base level courses are rigorous but set students up to follow their passion in the later years. At Groton, students have the opportunity to take two languages in their first 2 years as well as a religious studies course. As students enter their last 3 years at Groton, the school seeks to expand their knowledge, not narrow it. A wide range of electives help students dive into any topic they wish to study. Unlike the previous year, students can choose for a catalog of unique courses that all go towards their graduation requirements. Groton seeks to foster creativity and encourages students to not limit themselves to one academic path. Groton puts emphasis on spirituality, with a chapel service starting each day led by faculty, guests, and seniors.
